The Pachamama Alliance
The mission of The Pachamama Alliance is: - to preserve the Earth's tropical rainforests by empowering the indigenous people who are its natural custodians and to contribute to the creation of a new global vision of equity and sustainability for all.
Description:
The Pachamama Alliance was born out of a partnership developed between the Achuar, an indigenous tribe of the Amazon region of Ecuador, and a group of leaders in the United States. The primary purpose of our work in Ecuador, or “the South”, is to support the indigenous tribes in protecting the rainforest, their rights and their ancient way of life through a variety of projects. Out of the request of the Achuar to address the root causes of the threat to their culture and land we have created an educational workshop called the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium which is our primary work in the modern world or “the North.” The Symposium is the foundation of an Initiative which is rapidly spreading the message of the Symposium: to bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on this planet as the guiding principle of our times, across the globe. We now present the Symposium in Canada, Europe and Australia and seek to build alliances with organizations, businesses, churches and community groups worldwide to bring the Symposium to as many as possible.
