To create, promote, and further interest in public planting and protection of trees through sustainable urban forestry practices.

Description:
Our Acorn-to-Oak programs are part of ongoing research for Sudden Oak Disease (SOD) and reported to scientists at the University of California. Summer monitoring of the sites is through the AmeriCorps, operated by Conservation Corps. These students come from middle schools throughout Marin County.

The Memorial/Honorarium tree program is unique in that it places 15-gallon size trees in many of Marin's parks. Families are provided GPS addresses so they can visit the growing trees.

History:
Since 1991, our volunteers have distributed and planted over 15,000 trees. We have worked with Marin County Parks & Open Space District, Marin Municipal Water District, nearly all Marin municipalities and school districts, California Park System, and Caltrans. We have established oak woodlands throughout the county, helped homeowners re-landscape with trees after the Mt. Vision Forest Fire, and worked in Yosemite for three years to re-establish the wild forests.

Marin ReLeaf is Marin's leading advocate for sustainable urban forestry with plans to develop a program for street tree plantings in collaboration with the cities of San Rafael and Novato in the near future.
