Family Service Agency-Long Term Care Ombudsman
The Ombudsman Program mission is to advocate and protect isolated elderly and disabled who are institutionalized through complaint advocacy, visiting, and problem solving.
Description:
The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program of San Francisco has been in existence since 1979.Over the years, the Program through its few staff, and many dedicated volunteers has visited elderly in nursing homes, including Laguna Honda Hospital, and in residential care facilities and assisted living facilities in San Francisco, for the purpose of providing advocacy and protection through repeated visits.The Program receives seed money from both the Federal and State government to investigate problems and work towards improving the Quality of Care and Quality of Life for the consumers in these facilities.This seed money must be augmented by recruiting community members as volunteers to provide additional visiting-outreach on a regular basis. Volunteers are trained and certified by the California Department of Aging as Ombudsmen.
History:
Family Service Agency of San Francisco has been in existence since 1883, and has grown over the years as a non-profit agency providing comprehensive services to all ages. The Ombudsman Program, one of many programs within FSA/SF, has been in existence since its humble beginnings in 1979, and as a Program achieved full growth in 1984. This Program is City Wide.
