Child Assault Prevention Training Center

Last updated on January 10, 2008

The Child Assault Prevention Training Center (CAP), a program of East Bay Agency for Children, exists to promote the safety, strength and freedom of children, their families and their community.

Description:
CAP provides children and youth with the skills and training necessary to reduce their vulnerability to abuse and assault, and by helping to build communities where positive, long-term relationships with caring adults grow and flourish. CAP's commitment to children's well-being also includes wellness services for those who have been victims of abuse or assault.

History:
The CAP Training Center has gained national and international recognition as a pacesetting primary prevention program. By 1984, the CAPTC had received statewide attention and recognition as a leader in child abuse prevention when then Assemblywoman Maxine Waters asked us to be the primary sponsors, designers and writers of legislation that would provide child abuse prevention training for every public school student in California. We accepted the invitation and saw the historic prevention bill signed into law by Governor Deukmajian in October of 1984. Though the mandate for prevention training still exists, all state funding for child abuse prevention programs in the schools has been eliminated.
