Mangini Agricultural Museum
The Mangini Agricultural Museum facility aims to serve the county's youth by offering culturally diverse educational programs focusing on agriculture, food, nutrition, and the environment.
Description:
The facility consists of an agricultural museum, classroom, children's garden, and picnic area. The goals of the educational program are:
- To educate youth about the origin of food and fiber from plants and animals, the path food takes to get to the table, and how food nourishes us.
- To give youth the opportunity to grow plants and learn about nature's cycles in a garden setting.
To accomplish these goals, the facility will offer school field trips, special program and seasonal events.
History:
The Mangini Agricultural Museum opened at the county fairgrounds in Antioch in the summer of 1998. The Fair Board named the building in honor of Louis Mangini, for his service to the Fair and the Contra Costa community. A few years later the classroom and garden were added. The educational program began in the winter of 2003.
