The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description:
The Salvation Army Richmond/El Sobrante Church & Community Center provides church services every Sunday, and a variety of small group opportunities throughout the week. We also provide food boxes, utility assistance, and other servcies for low-income families or individuals who live in Western Contra Costa County. Food boxes are distributed three days a week, and other services are provided on an as needed basis. Volunteers are always needed to help sort and assemble food boxes. During Christmas time we especially need volunteers to help distribute toys and food at Christmas, stand the red Christmas kettles for our yearly fundraising efforts, and to visit and distribute gifts in local nursing homes.
History:
The Salvation Army began in 1865 in London England by William and Catherine Booth. Their goal was to provide soup, soap and salvation to anyone in need. The Salvation Army Richmond/El Sobrante Church and Community Center has been ministering to the needs of the people in the Richmond, CA area for over one hundred years. Originally located in Richmond, its church and office moved to El Sobrante 18 years ago to better serve West Contra Costa County.
