Restore San Francisquito Creek with Save The Bay (Palo Alto)
Last updated on November 25, 2008
Logo

Help Save The Bay empty our native plant nursery as we out-plant many species of native plants including mugwort, common aster and creeping wild rye. Volunteers will learn about habitat restoration as you plant species like blue-eyed grass, white yarrow, and sea lavender. Later in the spring, volunteers will focus their efforts on removing non-native plants like pepperweed and fennel to allow for our native plants to thrive.

This unique wetland habitat provides a home to many native species, including shorebirds, waterfowl, and anadramous fish such as Steelhead trout. Save The Bay partners with the City of Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve to restore wetlands at the mouth of San Francisquito Creek where it meets the Bay. With the help of volunteers Save The Bay grows native seedlings in an on-site Native Plant Nursery, remove invasive plants and will plant 8,000 native seedlings along the shoreline this year. Save The Bay is also assisting city staff and consultants with the development and implementation of the Palo Alto Bayland’s long-term Restoration and Management Plan.

Due to the sensitive nature of the restoration site, space is limited and RSVP is requested. Please complete the online registration form for yourself or a group, and note that we will contact you with other potential project dates if we can't fit your group on the project date that you have requested.

If you need more information about this or other events please contact Sarah Lyons, Administrative Assistant at (510) 452-9261 x119 or email bayevents@saveSFbay.org.

No experience necessary, all ages welcome. Gloves, tools and all instruction are provided. Each event is led by Save The Bay staff, who are certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid and all site projects have been planned to insure safety.
